Version 1 Support

The older, original Version 1 was created for Windows 98 and Mac OS9 systems. On newer Windows systems, it needs to run in compatibility mode; see the instructions below. (Click for Version 2.0 support.)

Version 1: Windows 2000 and XP
Before running How To Make Your Movie in Windows 2000, configure the program to run in "
Windows 95 Compatibility" mode by following these steps:

Right-click on the "Film School" icon on the desktop.
Select "Properties" from the menu.
Left-click the Compatibility Tab.
Put a checkmark in the "Run in compatibility mode" checkbox.
Select "Windows 95 Compatibility" from the drop-down menu.
Click on the "OK" button and run the program.

The Windows 95 Compatibility
option in Windows XP does not work with How To Make Your Movie.

Some Windows systems may require a change in virtual memory settings. This applies if you're getting the following message:

"Director Player 6.0 - This program requires at least 3mb free virtual memory to run."

In this case, follow these steps:

Go to My Computer and select Properties.
Select Advanced from the tabs at the top
Select the Performance Settings button.
In the Virtual Memory settings, select Custom Size, and set both initial size and maximum size to 500MB or less.

On some Windows systems, the old Version 1’s “Film_School.exe” file does not open the program. This is because the Version 1 installer is outdated compared to some more recent Windows installations. The “Film_School.exe” icon is just an alias linking to the actual .exe file, which resides in the “Resources” folder on the CD. When this happens, open that Resources folder and double-click Film_School.exe to start the program.
